Exploring the Wildlife During a Dolphin Cruise

May 17, 2024 | dolphin cruise

dolphin cruiseEmbarking on a dolphin cruise offers more than just the thrill of witnessing bottlenose dolphins leaping through the waves. It’s also an opportunity to encounter a diverse array of local wildlife, both on land and in the ocean. Let’s delve into the fascinating creatures you might encounter during your cruise:

Creatures You May Encounter During A Dolphin Cruise

1. Sea Turtles:

Myrtle Beach is a sanctuary for several species of sea turtles. For example, you’ll get to see the majestic loggerhead, the graceful green turtle, and the diminutive Kemp’s ridley. While these marine reptiles primarily inhabit the ocean depths, you may catch a glimpse of them surfacing for a breath of air. So, keep an eye out for common snapping turtles inhabiting the region’s lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers.

2. Pelicans:

Additionally, the iconic Brown Pelican is a common sight along the coastal shores. And, their impressive wingspans and distinctive long bills allow them to make dramatic plunges into the water to snag their fishy prey.

3. Seabirds:

Alongside pelicans, you may encounter a variety of other seabird species during your dolphin cruise in Myrtle Beach. So, look to the skies and rocky outcrops to spot seagulls, terns, herons, and cormorants gracefully navigating the coastal currents.

4. Fish:

Furthermore, the waters surrounding the area teem with an abundance of fish species. So, keep a lookout for shimmering schools of mullet, sheepshead, redfish, and flounder darting beneath the surface. Additionally, their lively presence adds to the vibrant marine ecosystem of the region.

5. Stingrays:

Meanwhile, gliding effortlessly through the shallows and along the ocean floor, stingrays epitomize grace in motion. Keep your eyes peeled for these captivating creatures as they glide silently through their underwater realm, their flat bodies and whip-like tails leaving an indelible impression.

6. Great Blue Heron:

Towering above the coastal marshes and shorelines, the Great Blue Heron commands attention with its majestic presence. Often, they’re found near the water’s edge. And, this stately wading bird patiently awaits its piscine prey. Also, they’re poised for the perfect strike.

So, encountering these fascinating creatures amidst the backdrop of scenic coastline adds a layer of excitement and wonder to your dolphin trip in Myrtle Beach. From the playful antics of dolphins to the serene beauty of coastal birds, each sighting offers a glimpse into the intricate tapestry of marine life thriving in these waters.

Wonderful dolphin experience! Captain Jason and crew were amazing. We got to see shutterfly (dolphin) and had a wonderful boat ride on the Atlantic. Would go again and highly recommend.

We had an absolutely incredible experience out on the water. From the moment we stepped on the boat, the crew made us feel welcome, comfortable, and excited for the day ahead. Their energy was contagious—they were knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what they do. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great time, whether it was helping us with gear or sharing tips. Highly recommend!

My husband and I came up for New Year's and booked a fishing trip with this company and was extremely pleased with the trip. The crew was helpful, knowledgeable, approachable, and just a fun good time, Brian 1 and 2 ?. The fact that the captain stopped at dolphin siting for us to take pictures and th crew would wait to allow you to take pictures of your catch was nice. I thought we were just going to go out and fish one spot but we made 3 separate spots to fish which was great!! Tips I would give anyone booking this trip is dress for the weather, bring cash and snacks, and please tip your tour guides they work extremely hard and deserve it! My family will be back in April and will definitely be booking again!!!
