What Makes Fall Deep Sea Fishing Different in Myrtle Beach?

Oct 19, 2026 | fishing Myrtle Beach | 0 comments

Deep sea fishing in Myrtle Beach changes during fall as cooler air, shifting water temperatures, seasonal fish movement, and shorter days influence offshore conditions. Anglers may enjoy more comfortable temperatures than during summer, but changing winds and ocean conditions require preparation. Understanding these seasonal differences helps visitors plan a safer, more enjoyable fishing adventure.

Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises welcomes beginners, families, and experienced anglers who want to explore the Atlantic Ocean during this changing season.

How Does Cooler Weather Affect Deep Sea Fishing?

Fall brings relief from the intense summer heat along the Grand Strand. September may still feel warm, while October and November often bring cooler mornings and breezier afternoons.

These temperatures can make spending several hours offshore more comfortable. However, the ocean often feels cooler than the shoreline because of wind exposure and spray.

Consequently, anglers should dress in layers rather than rely on the temperature forecast at the dock.

Why Do Changing Water Temperatures Matter?

As fall progresses, ocean temperatures gradually decline. These changes influence where fish gather, how actively they feed, and which areas may offer fishing opportunities.

Different species respond differently to cooling water. Some follow warmer currents, while others move toward reefs, wrecks, or areas with available food.

Captains consider water temperature, currents, depth, and recent fishing activity when selecting locations.

Therefore, fall fishing requires flexibility, since productive areas can change throughout the season.

What Fish Might Anglers Encounter During Fall?

Seasonal fish movement is one reason offshore adventures remain interesting after summer ends.

Depending on location, water conditions, and regulations, anglers may encounter:

  • Black sea bass around bottom structures
  • Vermilion snapper near offshore reefs
  • Triggerfish and porgies around hard-bottom areas
  • Grouper in suitable offshore habitats
  • King mackerel following seasonal baitfish movement

However, fish availability varies throughout the season. No particular species or catch is guaranteed.

How Do Shorter Days and Changing Ocean Conditions Affect Fishing?

Fall brings fewer daylight hours, influencing departure planning and the amount of available fishing time.

Weather patterns also become more variable as cold fronts move through the Carolinas. Stronger winds, larger waves, and changing currents can affect offshore travel.

A calm shoreline does not necessarily mean calm offshore waters.

During charter fishing excursions, captains evaluate marine forecasts and sea conditions to determine whether departure is appropriate.

Safety always takes priority, and trips may need adjustments or rescheduling when conditions become unfavorable.

What Should You Wear and Bring for a Fall Fishing Trip?

Proper clothing and supplies help anglers stay comfortable as conditions change.

What to bring:

  • Lightweight jacket or sweatshirt – Provides warmth during cool mornings
  • Windproof outer layer – Protects against wind and ocean spray
  • Non-slip, closed-toe shoes – Improves traction on wet decks
  • Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen –  Protects against sun exposure
  • Water and snacks – Helps maintain hydration and energy
  • Motion-sickness medication, if appropriate – Helps susceptible passengers prepare
  • Small waterproof bag – Keeps personal belongings dry

Additionally, check with Voyager Deep Sea Fishing & Dolphin Cruises about recommended supplies and onboard arrangements before departure.

Why Choose Myrtle Beach Fishing During Fall?

Fall offers visitors another opportunity to experience the Atlantic beyond the busy summer vacation season.

For families and first-time anglers, an offshore excursion combines coastal scenery, hands-on learning, and time together outdoors.

Experienced anglers may appreciate the opportunity to explore changing seasonal fishing patterns.

Regardless of experience, every outing offers something different.

Wonderful dolphin experience! Captain Jason and crew were amazing. We got to see shutterfly (dolphin) and had a wonderful boat ride on the Atlantic. Would go again and highly recommend.

We had an absolutely incredible experience out on the water. From the moment we stepped on the boat, the crew made us feel welcome, comfortable, and excited for the day ahead. Their energy was contagious—they were knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what they do. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great time, whether it was helping us with gear or sharing tips. Highly recommend!

My husband and I came up for New Year's and booked a fishing trip with this company and was extremely pleased with the trip. The crew was helpful, knowledgeable, approachable, and just a fun good time, Brian 1 and 2 ?. The fact that the captain stopped at dolphin siting for us to take pictures and th crew would wait to allow you to take pictures of your catch was nice. I thought we were just going to go out and fish one spot but we made 3 separate spots to fish which was great!! Tips I would give anyone booking this trip is dress for the weather, bring cash and snacks, and please tip your tour guides they work extremely hard and deserve it! My family will be back in April and will definitely be booking again!!!
